hip hooray

& happy birthday

Turning 18 is a special event for everyone. It’s not just another birthday, but a major milestone which means you can finally get into clubs, do your driver’s licence and all those things you have been dreaming of since adolescence. The 18th birthday should be celebrated to the fullest. Ferrero decided to do exactly that by airing a special TV-series of entertaining mini-spots where we follow the Schoko-Bon character on his journey to reaching the age of majority. M&C Saatchi Berlin came up with the lovely boards and our director Steve Scott was the perfect choice to bring them to life. He not only developed the Schoko-Bon character but also created a whole new comic surrounding for the commercials, accompanied by music from our inhouse composer Jonathan Wulfes.

We say hip hip hooray and happy birthday.

“Coalition of the Willing”

The film

24 filmakers from around the world came together to create “Coalition of the Willing” an animated film about the online war against global warming in a “post Copenhagen” world. The film has been crafted by professional artists and filmmakers using an array of eclectic techniques. Since February, sections of the film have been released every two weeks onto the Coalition site; this innovative staggered release allowing the argument to be re-defined even as the film is being made. The complete film’s official launch took place on Wednesday 30th June at London’s Richmix cinema. At the same time Parasol Island & Sehsucht (german contributers to the movie) showed the masterpiece at CSA Bar in Berlin. For those who couldn’t be there, here you go:

Merge

by Bohyun Yoon

A reflection of a half body merges with another reflected half body and completes one body. As the models begin to walk back and forth, a mixture of sex and scale creates man-woman, woman- woman, and an unbalanced image of the body.

Bohyun Yoon is a native South Korean who studied in Japan and the U.S. His work investigates the images of the human body in terms of identity, sexuality, gender and culture, it also explores the limits of the body and the boundaries of communication. He uses a wide-range of media including glass, mirror, and vinyl, through genres of installation, performance, and video.

Parasol Island

is stupid

Hey dudes & chicks out there,

here’s some web candy created by DDB Düsseldorf and realised by Parasol Island.

We’ve got news from Diesel. It’s pretty stupid but that’s no surprise at all. What is a stunner: it’s called facepark.

It’s the title for a movement with extremely analogue goals. We take everything we know about the social media platforms – and transfer it into the real and analogue world. So instead of wasting our time in front of the computer, we prefer to do something else: we’ll spend it together in an analogue park. At a particular place with trees and grass, at a certain time and without a very specific reason. There will be everything that exists in the digital world but, well, in real life.

Check all relevant facts at facepark.org. For all the people who want to be there, when digital life dies for one day and analogue rises again.

It would probably be smart not to join. So: Be Stupid.

Out of the woods

Ron van der Ende

The collage work of Ron van der Ende, an artist living in Rotterdam, just blows us away. He specializes in wall mounted bas-reliefs constructed from found wood. The original color and texture of the wood is utilized to form a sometimes photorealistic mosaic. The realism is further enhanced by the perspective built into the relief. Van der Ende uses his method to conjure up dark industrial and space age imagery. Continue to read for some more images, and check out his website for more impressive work.

Coalition of the willing

Parasol’s section up

Yeah, our contribution for the ‘Coalition of The Willing’ film is now online. Please visit the official site and take a look

About the project:

Coalition of the Willing is a politico-environmental film made by a network of 20 collaborating artists and film-makers from around the world. Since the beginning of february, the film got released in 6 staggered waves 2 weeks apart, with 4-5 sections uploaded in each wave.

About the release:

‘Coalition of The Willing’ is a film that discusses how we can use new internet technologies to leverage the powers of activists, experts, and ordinary citizens in collaborative ventures to combat climate change. Through analyses of swarm activity and social revolution, ‘Coalition of the Willing’ makes a compelling case for the new online activism and explains how to bring the fight against global warming to the people. As the film tackles the subject of online activism, the makers decided that the logical home for ‘Coalition of The Willing’ is online.

Play Denim

Parasol Island for s.Oliver

s.Oliver launches their international ‘Play Denim’ campaign and placed the entire commercial and photo production as well as some accompanying online measures at Parasol Island.

The ‘Play Denim’ action invites to combine playfully. According to the motto: Play with the styles. Mix your denim outfit. Find your combination. Key visual of the campaign is a Rubik’s Cube, which got easily integrated in the whole communication.

In search of the campaign’s faces the models Le Call, Jacey, Laura Butterfield & the smart Cole Mohr were quickly identified to represent the s.Oliver worlds Casual and QS.

For the print ads we worked with Estelle Klawitter, a keen photographer and also film director for whose film “Wortbrot” we did the animated title sequence some time ago.

The moving image was directed by our brazilian director Cisma (exclusive at Parasol Island), in collaboration with the director of photography Gösta Reiland. Our man Cisma has a fashion background, he worked at the creative department of the clothing brand Diesel. Gösta already worked with Madonna and shot several commercials for international labels including H&M (Victor & Rolf).

Fashion doesn’t really work without music. That’s why s.Oliver also asked us to come up with ideas for a proper sound. A word and a blow. Parasol Island’s composer Jonathan Wulfes looked after it and produced a catchy disco-banger with the young singer Izzy.

Tron

Be kind rewind

If you liked the sweded versions of Star Wars or Jurassic Park, you will love the slightcycle scene from Tron, every computer geek’s favorite movie. We can’t get enough of all the current paperwork stuff. What about you?
